A BIG Thank You to ALL!!

Hi everyone!

Thank you all for the nice Surprise today.

Many asked..."Ms Tao, cry leh...how come you never cry?"

Actually, I nearly did. But somehow I was able to control it :P....I guess I was too happy to see all of u... current members, new members and the especially the Sec.4s who are v busy now with their exam prep, thanks for making time... ... thank you to those who organized the farewell party, i know how difficult it is to get together 'almost' everyone... really appreciate it. :)

AND Thank you for the cards and gifts, so thoughtful ....and the beautiful cake.  It was both yummy and fun to play with. LOL.

Thank you Zhi Yuan for helping us with the photos...it was so nice of you to bring your "professional" camera...and makes me feel like a MODEELL for a moment. haha~

ok ok, let's be more serious...

How should I start...

I must say that it has been a memorable 3 and a half years for me in GDL.

Taught alot. Learnt even more.

Being an Orchestra teacher was a challenge, but I enjoyed every moment of it. U guys have been great. Really. I am PROUD to be your teacher in charge.

If there is only one thing I can bring along with me when leaving GDL, it will be the memories I have with the Orchestra.  Both happy and sad ones, which I will cherish forever.

Orchestra, just remember, you may not be the BEST, but I believe you will always give in your BEST in everything you do - not just in music, but also in your study. And hope that everyone will realize their dream one day... while I will pursue mine for now (For those who don't know, I am leaving to further my study.)

Farewell, everyone. We shall keep in touch ya? Hope to see u again soon...at your first concert ya?

XOXO,
Ms Tao
msn/twitter: missktao@hotmail.com
*hope to start a personal blog soon...

p.s. If you are still wondering why I act so calmly today...well...it's bcos a few came to me to ask, "Ms Tao, today got farewell party huh?"... haha, that was cute.

reminder and clarification

Reminder and Clarification

1. Costumes:
for those who have not returned the yellow costumes, pls pass it to Mdm Zhang (CL teacher)

2. Loaning of instruments:
I realize that some new members are not familiar with how to sign in/out on the loan book.

For borrowing: indicate "code of instruments", e.g. "erhu03", then write down the date under "date out", and sign under "sign out".

For returning: write the date under "date in", and sign under "sign in"

If the Group leader is helping everyone to sign, then pls indicate/sign ONCE. But make sure that when they return the instruments, they sign individually.

3. Collar Pin:
I also realize that some members are not wearing the collar pin. If you have lost it, pls make purchase with Mdm Zhang as well. It's $2 each.

5. Broken instruments:
In future, if your instrument is broken (which can be avoided if you take good care) or lost (which should never happen), pls report to the respective "Teacher buddy" as well as Mr Lim and your instructor.

Teacher Buddy
Mdm Lee - Plucked String
Mdm Zhang -Erhu/Cello/Bass
Mr Wah -Sheng/Suona/Dizi
Ms Tan -Percussion/Guzheng

With everyone's effort, we will make our Orchestra a better CCA!

Thank you.

Song of Cicada

Song of Cicada

Just imagine,

You are all alone, walking into a misty forest.
It's an early morning.

As you walk, the mist (cello) touches your face gently.
You hear birds' singing (percussion and YQ) in harmony.
It's an early and peaceful morning.

As you continue to walk, an unique squeeching sound catches your attention.
It's the Cicada! (sheng)
They are announcing the beginning of a new day.
It's an early, peaceful and pleasant morning.

Birds are singing (plucked) and the wind is blowing in your direction (dizi and erhu).
You feel refreshed.
It's an early, peaceful, pleasant and refreshing morning.

Very soon, the afternoon sun came.
The cicadas become active and is buzzing with energy!
There's hope and joy in every sound they make (dizi).
Yes, that's right. Hope and Joy!

The song ends with the sound of the cicada: di di di! (everyone)

Maynot be accurate, but hope it helps you to imagine an play with more expression and feeling!  you can do it!
:) Ms Tao

SYF sec4s members:

2 more days to our SYF.
It'll be the last SYF for us and it might also be the last day we play our instrument.
Remember four years ago, the first time we hold our instrument?
Four years ago, it was so new, so beautiful.
Four years later, it wasn't as new as then already, but it's still beautiful.
From then when we didn't even know how to hold our instrument in the correct position,
Till now when we can play so many songs.
During these four years when we grew up, our instrument grew with us too.
We now have bonds with our instrument and it'll be difficult to part with it.

Remember the first time when we went for SYF?
We did our best,
Enjoy every minute on stage.
From the tense to the smile on our friends and teachers' face was a great encourage for us.
They were always behind us, encouraging us.
When we knew the results,
We cheered.
We knew we did it.
It was really a good start for us.
Now everybody had high hopes in us.
I believe you have high hopes in yourself, too.

Have faith in yourself.
Believe you can do it, and you can do it.
Don't let those who believe in us down.
Put in all your best effort,
For yourself,
For Mr.Lim,
For Ms Tao,
For all your instructors,
Without them, then,
There won't be us, today.
Our best performance will always be the biggest thankyou for them.

Just enjoy the last silence,
Enjoy the last two songs,
Enjoy your last performance,
Enjoy the last applause,
And enjoy your last time spend with your instrument.
Enjoy it and at least years later when you look back, you won't have any regrets.

Regards,
Qien.

2 more days to SYF!

here is something about the two songs we playing(:

Song of Cicada (蝉歌)
by PHOON YEW TIEN (潘耀田)

this song is composed by renowned Singaporean musician, Mr Phoon Yew Tien.

for more information about him, visit : http://www.phoonyewtien.com/e.html

Song of Cicada is inspired by a drawing, Song of Cicada, a late Singaporean artist Chua Ek Kay's work. (shown below)

i researched about this song, but there's little information about this song.
hehes. sorry.

and sorry that the below information are in chinese and some in fan ti zi.

拉薩行,打鬼
by 關迺忠
for more information on composer, visit:http://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E9%97%9C%E8%BF%BA%E5%BF%A0 (ehs, also in chinese, sorry)

that is all i can find. MARIANNE maybe going to translate the 打鬼 information part. hehes.
i hope you all will know better about the two songs and can express it well (:

Take care of yourself .
Let do our best on Monday(:

jiayous(:

Best regards,
yanping

End. Avoid. Escape. Face It.

After two posts from the Erhu section, here's another one. :D I can say that I'm inspired by Xuefang, Miss Tao, Jialing & Yanping. Their posts really makes me feel like crying. Yes, because it's ending soon, real soon. All these moments, it will end on Monday, the big big SYF. Well, for the Sec.4s yeah. =x

I think everyone will be avoiding this feeling, trying to escape from it. Who likes farewell? Who likes to be parted? Nobody right? Hahas. So, let's make this SYF 2009 a fruitful & memorable one. (: Let's face this well.

To dear dear Erhus & orchestra :
Erhus! Make sure you guys MOVE with the music & feel it alrights! Let's do it once and for all. Let's think this way, once it's over, we're done! & Hooray! Silver comes to us, isn't it? Let's MOVE & make sure we get the right pitch too!
Orchestra! I think that we've done well this time round & I can see that everyone's putting their best effort to this SYF. Let's stay calm & face it well, can we?

Feeling the same as YP, I am attached to my ZHONGHU as well! It followed me for about 3 years & we have feeling for each other kays! I don't really want to leave it in GDL. Miss Tao, can I bring it home? Hehehes. Just kidding. :D Yes, This zhonghu is mine for 3 years. & I am sure I've been taking good care of it, so the following zhonghu members, please take good care of it. :D Remember kays, thanks!

Just like MissTao said, We must take care of Orchestra as one, Mr Lim, our instructors & of course, ourselves & instuments. Don't fall sick until Monday kays! Well, stay healthy forever yeah. (: && let's strive for Silver on Monday kays? I know we can. (: GO ORCHESTRA!

Don't be afraid of tomorrow, as yesterday had passed & today will be, soon. Time won't wait for you, but it's for you to chase it. Don't waste time & get it all done. I'm sure, after this SYF, everyone will be crying, will feel happy, will feel that their's shoulders are lighter. So let's make this SYF a memorable day.

Some photos taken today & yesterday :

Erhus with Mr Cheng. :D

Erhus with Mr Lim. :D

Mr Lim, ACT CUTE HOR! ( Mr Lim don't scold me. ^^ )

Erhus with Miss Tao. :D

Hope you guys will feel the passion for orchestra & chiong for silver. (:

I Just Want to Say

I just want to say...

Xue fang, thank you for your inspiring post. I like the quote by Henry Ford: "Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success."

Yes, we have COME TOGETHER...back in 2006...that was OUR BEGINNING ---

a time when most of us were new to Orchestra,
a time when coming for practice was not about playing music but just hitting note after note,
a time when many members came up to me to tell me that they want to quit or transfer CCA,
a time when frustrations overweighed satisfaction

But then, YOU have decided to stay on...and we managed to KEEP TOGETHER and PROGRESS ---

we had our first public performance at Punggol Plaza, where the Plucked-string section played the "Ye Lai Xiang" ... and the dizi players performing a duet.
we also had our first SYF in 2007. all of you were just sec.2. Do you still remember the two songs? Lin zhong ye hui and Jian Kuai de Liang Feng. Sometimes I wonder how will you sound if you are to play it again now?

Yes, we have come together till this far.
Now, here we are- WORKING TOGETHER for SUCCESS!

In 5 days time, we are going for our next SYF. For some of you, this will be the last chance to represent our school in any competition or performance. Because it is the LAST, we want it to be the BEST. But what defines BEST? To me, it is defined as:

BELIEVE IN EACH OTHER and SUCCEED TOGETHER.

With BELIEF, we can overcome all obstacles and fear.
With BELIEF, we can play the most beautiful and touching melodies.

Believe in yourself as we believe in you.
Yes, WE believe in YOU.

Just do your B.E.S.T. and that is all that I need.

All the best!

Ms Tao

5 more days to our big day!
To most of you out there, this might be the first time you are participating SYF or the last time you would be on this stage.

You don't have to be perfect, everyone is not perfect BUT effort and improvement are important.
Remember, every one of us is a valuable part of the team.
"Will you look back on life and say, "I wish I had," or "I'm glad I did"?"

Henry Ford once said, “Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success."
I truly agree to this quote, I believe that as long as our hearts beats as one, we will be able to play the most beautiful music.

In an orchestra, there's no "I", its "we".
You may be great musicians/players, but if you do not play together, it won't be called an orchestra.

The dictionary is the only place where success comes before work.

Give your 101% on the stage on Monday, do not panic, as long as each and individual of us remember what Mr Lim had taught us, we will be fine.

We have all came so far, thus lets all work hard together to achieve our goal. Have confidence in yourself, in the orchestra, as optimism is the faith that leads to achievement.

No one can whistle a symphony. It takes a whole orchestra to play it. ~H.E. Luccock

SYF Costumes, Shoe, Hair etc.

Dear SYF members,

14 more days to our BIG BIG DAY!!

I'm sure all of you have tried your costume to make sure that it fits well without having to hang on to it to keep it from dropping. (If you haven't done your fitting, pls do so by the 10th April. Don't want anyone to come up on that day to say that their costume doesn't fit.)

Besides the costume, I would also like to remind you on the followings:

1. Black Shoes
- Has to be black totally.
- Preferably flat for easy walking.
- It's ok if they have some designs e.g. ribbon or little "diamonds" on them :)

2. Hair
- I have given up the idea of having the same haircut for everyone. (for some of you who knew about this earlier haha).
- Long hair: tie up neatly, with the yellow and black ribbons.
- Short hair: neatly combed (apply to the boys too)

3. Make-up
- We will allocate time for make-up (for both boys and girls)
- We will provide some simple cosmetic. However, if you can bring your own (especially foundation and lipsticks, that will be even better :)
- As for who will do the make-up for you...hmm...if you can help one another, that will be the best! Of course, Ms Neo and the other teachers will be there to help too!

Please ask if you have any questions regarding the above. I may miss out some details.

Thanks!
Ms Tao
