Hi all members!

It's been 9 days since i came to Wuhan (a city in China). By the way, if u r wondering what am i doing here. I m here for some training programme.

every morning, when i leave my place for breakfast, i will hear someone from the same building, playing or practising "erhu"... and that makes me think of you guys. can't help but wonder, how's everyone in Orchestra? how's the practice going on? The new SYF set piece that u all just received not long ago....is it difficult? how does it sound like? ......

so can i request a little "favour" here? can anyone update me about the orchestra? any kind of updates. good things or bad things. normal things or funny things....i would really want to hear from YOU (anyone, not necessarily the leaders).

practice updates

Practice for the last 2 weeks of school (updated)

(as stated on the schedule placed on the door and Noticeboard@canteen)

5/11 (Wed) 2-5pm   Combined(SYF) *new member need not come

6/11 (Thur) 2-5pm   Sectional(ALL) + Combined(non-SYF)

12/11 (Wed) 2-5pm Combined (SYF) *new member need not come

13/11 (Thur) 2-5pm Sectional(ALL) + Combined(non-SYF)

*no change so far for "Holiday" practice. So refer to ur original copy.

Take note:

1. Plucked strings members, for these 2 weeks...NO practice on tues, changed to thur. so you come only once(for new member) or twice(for SYF members)

2. Even though 5/11 is promotion day and there's no lesson, CCA will still continue. It has been planned long ago, as we really DO NOT have much time left for SYF... but always remember, your hard work will pay off!! :)

3. Please make it a HABIT to check the blog, esp before your practice...in case there's any changes. However, changes "last-min" e.g. cancellation, will be announced in the morning assembly. Otherwise, it will be announced on blog at least 1 day in adv. SO CHECK BLOG CHECK BLOG CHECK BLOG...as often as u can.

4. Some of you do not have internet access at home. So, you may want to check with ur friends or ask them to update u when there's a change. OR, u can also check the Noticeboard@Canteen. (but again, blog is more up-to-date.)

5. Grp leaders, I would really appreciate if you can help to create a good network amongst your group...to pass info to one another. I know some of you have really BIG group. so relay system will be helpful. I will print out the relay sys to u once it's done. 

6. During post-exam, if u have sch events inside/outside school and cannot attend CCA, pls inform any teacher ic of the day IN ADVANCE. so that we can discuss and see if u need to come for make-up or not. 

7. Pls be aware that we are monitoring attendance VERY CLOSELY for this post-exam as well as holiday. My advice is: try not to be absent, so that u don't have to make up. i know it's hard to wake up early during hols, but do try to help each other to come, rather than ending up coming back on extra days to do make-up without the rest. (of cos, if u r sick and have an MC, u will be excused)  Really do not wish to suspend anyone from participating in SYF because of this reason. All of you deserve to perform at the SYF!!

Farewell concert

Dear members,

As some of you already know, there will be a farewell concert for our Principal next Friday (last day of school)...and after much consideration... we have decided to play...NOT xiao-cheng-gu-shi ....BUT......

cca resumes on 28th oct

Dear members,

Exam is over. CCA is going to resume next week:

28/10-plucked string 2-5pm

29/10-combined 9.30-12.30pm

30/10-sectional 2-5pm

A few things to take note as CCA resumes:

1. Morning Announcement: In future, minimal announcement will be made during the morning assembly, unless it's some urgent matters. So do make sure you have the updated "practice schedule" with you so that you won't forget any of the sessions. I will also put the schedule up on the GO noticeboard (see point #2)

2. NEW GO Noticeboard: yes, we have a new noticeboard in the canteen. it's the one opposite Chorale's. In future, announcement will be made thru the noticeboard (and blog). So do CHECK REGULARLY (everyday is possible) & INFORM others if you see any notice/announcement.

3. Am i SYF and non-SYF?: at the moment, Mr Lim has not finalized the SFY list 2009. So for future practice, pls follow the usual arrangement. Meaning, Sec.2 & 3 for SYF, and sec.1 for non-SYF. He will finalize the SYF list after more observation! :)

4. Last Performance of 2008: There will be an upcoming performance in school (last day of school). We MAYBE playing "xiao cheng gu shi" again!!! More details will be given on Wed (29/10). Or simply check the blog!

Dear members,

Out of 20+ SYCO audition application forms that were given out, only 5 forms were returned to me as of today.

Please take note: Monday-13.10.08 will be the LAST day to submit the application form, which is to be accompanied by:

1) 2 passport-sized photos

2) scores

3) a cheque ($16.05)

4) birth cert (photocopy)

Please submit the necessary to me ASAP as I will send out the forms on next Mon.

Some updates

Just some updates for everyone:

1. Return of "pineapple" costume: who else have not returned the costume? Pls do so asap. MeiLing (pipa) will be tidying up the wardrobe for us and do stock take soon.

2. Collection of green t-shirt: some of you have not collected the new t-shirt yet. Pls do so by end of the week. Look for Valerie (dizi).

3. Collection of collar pin: some of you have not collected the collar pin from me. Pls look for me personally in school. (recess or after school). You will need to sign on a list for collection.

4. Make-up sessions: pls note that the list i put up on blog last time is NOT THE REAL ONE.  Pls refer to the one outside the orchestra room instead. The next make-up sessions will be after exam, I will pin up a new list including Term 4 attendance. Further announcement will be made.

5. NUS music exam:  some of you indicated interest in taking up the NUS music exam last time. But you said you r still "considering"...Can we confirm by end of Sept? Cos the deadline is in Oct.

6. Payment: those who haven't paid the $12/$5, pls pass the money to me personally by end of the week. Putri and Claudia, pls be prepared to meet up sometime next week.

clarification

CLARIFICATION for Sec. 2-3 members

Some of you started to ask this question recently: 

"Must we buy the t-shirt?"

My answer to you is: 

"It is NOT compulsory."

And if I am not wrong, this was announced even before the June holiday.

Ever since then, 

we asked each section to come out with designs,

we narrowed down to 2 designs,

we did the vote,

we collected the sizes,

we made announcement on the progress of the design/color of tee,

we pinned up announcement on the door and blog regarding the design, price and sizes.

we put up namelists outside the GO room, wanting to confirm the sizes before we order.

Throughout these 3 months,

no one has mentioned to us or anyone that he or she does not want the tee.

Now,

we have people starting to voice out their wishes.

I am puzzled and disappointed.

Was there a communication breakdown somewhere?

Or was it simply just a one-way communication?

We need to reflect on this.

All of us.

And can I request,

from next year onwards,

ordering of t-shirt or anything of that sort, 

will be taken charge by EXCO members TOTALLY,

which is what commonly practiced in other schools.

Will pass you the vendor's contact.
